Pre- and Postoperative Care
At Plastikos we recognize that your surgery may range from a minor procedure done under local anesthetic to a more dramatic intervention requiring general anesthesia and a more prolonged recovery. As such we offer a wide range of both traditional and holistic modalities to help relieve your pain and improve your time to healing and recovery. Discussion with your surgeon will help to find the right combination for your specific needs. These modalities, and more, including additional supplements, homeopathic remedies and varied holistic interventions, in concert with traditional western approaches will maximize your recovery and healing. Please ask your surgeon to create a postoperative plan just for you.
Preoperative Care: American WholeHealth CAM Disc. Plan
Non-Narcotic Pain Medications
This class of medication includes prescription and non prescription strength medications like acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and naproxen. These work well for mild pain or in conjunction with a narcotic medication for more significant pain. These may cause stomach upset and should be stopped if they do. Your physician may ask you to stop taking certain non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (aspirin, Motrin TM, Aleve TM) before surgery as they may predispose you to bleeding complications during and after surgery. Please notify your physician if you use these types of medications.
There are a wide variety of narcotic medications available to your surgeon to treat your pain. These medications are very strong and occasionally habit forming so your Surgeon will likely only provide enough for the immediate postoperative period to address your acute pain. They may cause nausea and some abdominal discomfort. Notify your doctor if these symptoms arise.
Certain breast and abdominal procedures will also be a candidate for postoperative pain management with a pain pump. These pumps deliver continuous infusions of local anesthetic to the surgical site and can stay in place from 24 to 72 hours. They are then removed in the office or at home as directed. You can ask your surgeon if this method may be useful for your individual pain management.
This new, FDA approved modality is a breakthrough in reduction of edema and bruising. Edema may worsen your postoperative pain and Sofpulse™ may help in alleviating that component of your pain and help quicken your healing time. As this is a topical patch, it is not typically associated with any side effects.
This homeopathic remedy is formulated with multiple ingredients to maximize its healing effects. It includes arnica, which aids in decreasing bruising, and other ingredients which have anti-inflammatory properties. Just a few droplets on the tongue postoperatively can aid in speeding up your recovery time. As a homeopathic remedy there are very few associated side effects.

Barbara Tirpak: "One year ago, today, I had my breast implants explanted and a breast lift. I thank you, with all my heart, for a successful surgery and post surgery. Thank you for truly caring, and answering all my questions, big and small, and getting me through a C Diff infection. I wish you many more years of helping people, like me, to a healthier life. You are in my daily prayers. You truly are a dedicated surgeon and an amazing human being. THANK YOU, DR. KOLB!!!"
Robin Huxoll: "I know I may sound like a broken record, but I continue to be amazed at the care & personal responses that I receive from my doctor in Atlanta, DrSusan E Kolb. It's been over 2 years since my surgery (my life saving surgery), yet she continues to respond to my emails & answer each question. I honestly don't know when she has time to sleep. I sent her a question this morning expecting a response later this week. When Danny checked emails tonight, there was already a response from her. In order to understand how remarkable this is, you have to know that not only does she operate a thriving medical center in Atlanta, she literally treats patients from all over the world, she hosts a weekly radio broadcast, she has written books & has made multiple TV appearances. The very fact that this talented surgeon agreed to see me, is amazing, but the fact that 2 years after my surgery she continues to treat & communicate with me (through email, no less) absolutely blows my mind. I hope there is a special place in heaven for this remarkable lady. She is my life-saver in every sense if the word."
Grateful Patient: "I've waited to write my review because I was initially so sick from the candida fungus, mold and silicone toxins that I had to give myself some time to get my feet back under me. I am beyond pleased that I somehow found my way to Atlanta and Dr Susan Kolb and her office. While Dr Julian Gordon did my explant surgery, Dr Kolb has been there every step of the way to help heal my body from over 15 years of being slowly poisoned by first saline implants that were moldy, leaked into my body in 2006 and were replaced with silicone (although I didn't discover they were moldy until I read the surgical report in 2011 when trying to figure out why I was so sick - the implanting surgeon never told me he found mold). After years of primary, specialists and surgeons telling me there was nothing wrong with me - Dr Kolb and her work finally gave me some answers. It was easy to make the decision to schedule with her. My enbloc explant was done on 4/30/15. Dr Kolb emailed and communicated with me prior to my even scheduling with her office and has always responded to my email inquiries promptly then and since then. Dr Gordon helped me to feel at ease and responded to emailed inquiries as well. While getting the implants out was the first step I knew I had a ways to go and can happily report that at 4 months post explant, with Dr Kolbs expert help and guidance, I feel I have a chance at life after 15 years of going from active and healthy to completely disabled, unable to work and feeling each day as though I was dying. I will forever be grateful for Dr Kolb's work to reveal the truth about breast implants, help women heal from this devastating illness and can highly recommend her and Dr Gordon as experts in this field."
