Also known as mastopexy, a breast lift raises the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour. Sometimes the areola becomes enlarged over time, and a breast lift may reduce this as well. There are a variety of skin incisions that can be used in mastopexy procedures. Your surgeon will discuss the options with you and formulate a unique plan tailored to your needs.
Procedural steps: Excess skin is surgically removed and the breast tissue may be lifted and sutured to raise the nipple-areola complex and tighten and support the breast tissue in its new shape.
Your results: In the initial postoperative period, bruising and swelling is anticipated. The shape of the breasts may be irregular. Breast shape may take a few months to fully refine and settle. There are also many options for postoperative pain management. Bruising & swelling subside over several weeks. Incision lines will continue to flatten and fade for up to 1 year.
