There are times when areas of our face accumulate more fat than we would like. From the jowl areas to the “turkey neck” these areas can sometimes be effectively treated and contoured with liposuction. While not nearly as invasive as a face lift, these procedures do not accomplish as dramatic a result as a formal facelift. Facial Liposuction removes excess fatty tissue in the face and below the chin and can help tighten skin in treated areas. Facial liposuction can be used on its own or in conjunction with other plastic surgery treatments. Potential facial liposuction patients usually wish to eliminate problems such as double chins or jowls, while some facial liposuction candidates are attempting to alter the overall fullness of their faces. This is often a result of aging, obesity, or heredity.
Procedure: A facial liposuction procedure normally takes about 45 to 90 minutes to perform. Your surgeon will make several small “access” incisions under your chin, near your ear and on your neck. The remainder of the procedure is performed with suction cannulas.
Results: In the initial postoperative period, you will have a bulky dressing on your face and neck. It is recommended that you keep your head elevated for 7 to 14 days. Bruising and swelling are a normal occurrence in most surgeries and will resolve in a few weeks.
